How to animate with keyframes
Click a clip on the track, open its Motion tab, move the playhead and press Add keyframe; move the playhead again, change the pose, add another. The picture moves between them. Titles, layers, effects and masks keyframe the same way.
- Pick what moves. Click a cut on the track (its inspector opens), a title or a layer on the picture, an effect block or a mask.
- Set the first key. Put the playhead where the move starts and press Add keyframe (on a clip, in the Motion tab).
- Set the next key. Move the playhead, change the position, size, turn or opacity — on a title or a layer with keyframes on, the change writes a key by itself. Diamonds on the strip show each key.
- Choose the easing. Select a key and pick how the move leaves it: linear, ease in, ease out, ease in and out, back (a small overshoot) or hold (a jump).
- Shape the curve. Press Shift+G for the graph editor: drag a key in time and value, double-click a stretch to make it a curve and drag its two handles.
- Shape the path. A title or layer that moves shows its path on the picture; drag a point on it to move that key.
Ken Burns in one click
The Motion tab has six ready moves — Push in, Pull out, Pan left, Pan right, Tilt up, Tilt down — each two keys from the cut’s start to its end, eased.
Motion blur on moves
Export → Renderer → Frame-accurate → Motion blur on moves blends sub-frames across each frame while something keyed is moving, the way a camera shutter would.
Undo is Ctrl+Z, and one history covers the whole project.
Questions
Why does my keyframed move not play?
Keys belong to the cut you selected; check the diamonds on its strip. Moving a block on the track carries its keys with it.
Can I copy a move to another clip?
Yes: Ctrl+Alt+C copies a block’s attributes and Ctrl+Alt+V pastes them, pose and keys included.
Is it free?
Yes. Keyframes, easing, the graph editor and exports up to 1080p are free.
