How to style captions for TikTok, Reels and YouTube

Open Text → Captions. Make the captions (automatically, from a file, or by hand), pick a Look — Word pop, Highlight box, Karaoke and six more — and press a Platform template so they sit clear of TikTok’s, Reels’ or Shorts’ buttons. What you see is what exports.

  1. Make the captions. In Text → Captions press Auto generate (1 credit a started minute, word timing included), import an .srt, .vtt or .ass file, or type them.
  2. Pick a look. Clean, Boxed, Outline, Karaoke, Word pop, Highlight box, Bounce, Typewriter or Bold shadow — each a set of size, plate, shadow, capitals and entrance you can change after.
  3. Light the spoken word. Karaoke colours each word as it is said; Highlight box puts a filled box behind it; Word pop brings each word in as it is spoken.
  4. Fit the platform. Press TikTok, Reels, Shorts, Story, YouTube or Square: the frame shape, the height of the captions and the look change together, and the app’s button area is shown hatched for a moment.
  5. Fine-tune. Size, colour, the highlight and ink colours, the entrance and its length, and the height (Height… for any position).
  6. Export. The captions bake into the picture. To deliver a file instead, export .srt, .vtt or .ass from the Captions panel.

Two languages at once

Translate the captions in the Captions panel and turn on Bilingual: the translation shows at full size with the original smaller under it — on the stage, in the export and in the .srt.

Speakers and scripts

Automatic captions can tell speakers apart; name them in the Speakers card and choose whether names show. For Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Chinese and others, the language look picks a font made for the script, its line height and its direction.

Undo is Ctrl+Z, and one history covers the whole project.

Questions

Do the styles survive an .srt?

An .srt keeps colour, bold, italic, underline and position per caption; .vtt and .ass keep the whole look, word timing included.

How much do automatic captions cost?

One credit for every started minute of the clip. Typing or importing captions is free.

Can I edit a caption on the picture?

Yes — double-click it on the stage and type; Enter keeps it, Escape puts the old words back.
